Equine Care

Offering a wide range of equine care.

Preventive care, nutritional advice, and general horse care.

Wellness care

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" That saying holds true for horses also. As part of our routine care we provide vaccinations, parasite control, Coggins testing, and dental care. Our veterinarians are equipped to discuss many issues or needs your horse may have such as nutritional evaluations, geriatric care and training regimens. As an added service to you we have put together an Equine Wellness Program that provides your horse with the appropriate wellness package for their needs. More about this program can be found here.

Time of need care

We offer care for your horse in cases of colic, sickness, lameness, injury, metabolic problems, or chronic illness. We are equipped to provide intravenous fluids and intensive medical care at your farm or at our clinic. Most routine laboratory results can be obtained within 24 hours with our in-house lab services. Emergency care is provided on a 24-hour basis for your horse by our team of veterinarians on call.

Pre-purchase examinations

We offer pre-purchase examinations to best help you evaluate potential purchases to screen for signs of any lameness or physical issues that help determine whether the horse will be serviceable for its intended use. There are several levels of pre-purchase exams that we perform depending on your needs. Every exam includes a thorough physical and lameness evaluation. Examinations may include laboratory testing, radiographs, and ultrasound exams.

Geriatric care

Aged horses can have sub-clinical health care issues that can be identified and treated before they become a problem. If your horse is over 15 years of age we recommend a complete physical examination and blood testing to establish baseline values.  Dental health becomes increasingly more important as your horses' age so that they can maintain a healthy weight and we recommend yearly oral examinations for horses over 15 as well as a nutritional evaluation to ensure your companion is receiving everything they need.

Lameness examination

To evaluate the performance of your horse we use a variety of techniques to identify the source(s) of lameness including physical examination and palpation, flexion tests, and joint and nerve blocks. With our digital radiograph, ultrasound, and laboratory tests we can further evaluate the source of your horse's lameness and best determine treatment and rehabilitation for your horses' lameness.

Surgery

Standing or recumbent surgery of the horse can be performed for castration, biopsy, and laceration repair. More complicated procedures may be referred to a specialist.

Specialized procedures:

  • Ultrasonography
  • Digital Radiography
  • Vaccinations protocols
  • Dentistry

Our national organization, the American Association of Equine Practitioners has a wonderful archive of information on all things horse health. This archive can be searched or browsed through to find information on almost any issue you may encounter with your horse.
